How to Start Living Sustainably

Eco-friendly and sustainability are buzzwords. For the past few years we've heard a lot about global warming and rising temperatures and waste and destruction of nature. And people are learning they can play a role in reducing these issues. And you may want to be one of those people, but you might not know how to begin. We've got the 411 on sustainable living and how to start below.
Sustainable living means actively choosing to live within your means, care for the environment, and in the process enhance your way of life. It can result in reducing your carbon footprint, reducing your impact on natural resources, and a healthier lifestyle.
1. Use less energy.
You can do this by turning off lights, turning your heat down, hang drying your clothing, take an occasional cold shower, invest in energy efficient appliances, and insulate your home. Just to name a few. :)
2. Go paperless.
Ask to get your bills and receipts and other documents online (this makes them easier to store and to locate and better for the environment!). Inventory the ways and reasons you use paper and see how you can change.
3. Use renewable energy.
Consider buying an electric car or getting solar panels installed at your home.
4. Recycle and reuse.
Get a designated recycle bin and learn proper recycling practices. Many cities offer recycling services and will pick up your recycling weekly. 5. Start a garden and compost!
Planting and caring for your own garden can be a fun hobby, a way to save money, and a great way to support the planet. Composting is also a productive way to reuse your waste.
6. Drive less.
When possible, walk, bike, or take public transportation. Not only is this a great way to live sustainably but it also is an opportunity for exercise and fresh air!
7. Look for products and brands that are eco-friendly.
Many brands are products make it abundantly clear whether they are eco-friendly or how they are safe for the environment. Do your research and seek out those products.
There are many simple and easy things you can do to become more sustainable. It's easy to begin and once you start, it's easy to find more ways to alter your lifestyle and actions to live better and cultivate a healthier environment. What are you doing today to be more sustainable?
