PhoneSoap x Black History Month: Giving Back to the Ashé Cultural Arts Center

To celebrate Black History Month, we're partnering with the Ashé Cultural Arts Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. For the entire month of February, $5 from every sale will be donated back to the organization.

Ashé's mission is to use art and culture to support human, community, and economic development. According to their website, they celebrate "the people, places, and philosophies of the African diaspora," and they are one of the leading places in the nation that presents creative works that emphasize and focus on the contributions of people of African descent.

The core values that guide  Ashé are collaboration, community-based connectedness, community advocacy and dialogue, cultural reciprocity and justice, and economic and community development.

LaChae Risin, a PhoneSoap employee, suggested this partnership as she was a frequent supporter before moving to Utah. "Ashé has made a huge difference in my life and a lot of my friends back home in New Orleans."

Risin said Ashé hosts events that "allow the Black community to showcase their many different talents."

The organization's efforts don't end there. They have 29 studio apartments that are permanent affordable housing for artists and culture-bearers, as well as a few apartments that provide "in-neighborhood art and culture experiences."

Space is available for rent that provides audio/visual, lighting, and sound equipment as well as gallery space.

"Ashé is a profound testament to the resistance, innovation, and intrinsic power of the cultural traditions that thrive in New Orleans and have prevailed through the African Diaspora," says their website.

We are proud to support and donate to the Ashé Cultural Arts Center in an effort to honor and support the Black community.
