Which Air Purifier is Best?
December 11, 2020 | By Lauren Lethbridge
It's important to purchase an air purifier that will work best for you. We're here to identify some common differences and what to look for while shopping for your air purifier.
Things to Look For When Shopping
What Size of Room it Covers
When shopping for air purifiers make sure to look at the area they can cover. Some purifiers are most effective in smaller spaces. Often the size will be explained in square footage.
Air purifiers that use filters (like HEPA filters) do not emit ozone. Ionizing air purifiers use electricity that emits ozone. There are levels of ozone that are harmful. The National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety states that 5 ppm (parts per million) is immediately dangerous to life and they recommend not exceeding 0.1 ppm.
Air purifiers that use filters mean that those filters need to be replaced and disposed. If eco-friendliness is important to you, you may want to consider an air purifier that is electric or an ionizer that doesn't need replacement filters that could cause unnecessary waste.
What You Are Trying to Accomplish
If you are looking to specifically reduce odors (like cigarette smoke) or dust, then a filter may accomplish that better than an electric air purifier. But if you are trying to reduce airborne viruses/bacteria or mold, then an air purifier that uses UV disinfection or ionizing technology is best. So make sure you identify your need for an air purifier before you begin shopping.
Do your research, determine what you want your air purifier to accomplish, and what your budget is before you shop.
We offer an air purifier, the AirSoap, that is filterless and uses Electric Wind Technology. It can cover a room up to 400 square feet and emits less than 10 ppb of ozone. We offer washable, reusable collecting plates that eliminate unnecessary replacement filter costs and waste.
