PhoneSoap Pro troubleshooting: the red light after a cycle.
Most PhoneSoap Pro questions come down to one thing: a red indicator at the end of a cycle. Here is what it means, how to clear it, and what to do when it will not clear.
Try this first
- Leave the lid open in a bright room for 5–10 minutes, then run a cycle.
- Wait 15 minutes between cycles — back-to-back runs can trip a heat cutoff.
- Check both bulb pairs for silver or black discoloration at the ends.
The red indicator
The light turns red at the end of every cycle.
The Pro runs a 5-minute cycle and checks the bulbs as it finishes. A red indicator at that point means one or more bulbs did not reach full output.
- Wake the bulbs: lid open in a bright room or natural light for 5–10 minutes, or a flashlight into the bay for 2–3 minutes.
- Run a cycle, then repeat once more if it comes back red.
- Space cycles at least 15 minutes apart while you test.
Two other causes are worth ruling out: a cracked or crushed bulb (inspect all four), and overheating — if you have run several cycles back-to-back, unplug the unit and leave it open in a well-ventilated room for 20 minutes before testing again.
If red returns after two or three wake attempts, a bulb has failed. That is covered by the lifetime bulb warranty — contact us with your order number, serial number, and a short video of the cycle.
It went red after a trip or a few weeks of not using it.
Expected. Bulbs go dormant during long idle periods. The wake steps above usually clear it, but after a long gap it can take several attempts spread over a day. Running the unit at least once a week keeps it from happening.
Red comes on within seconds of closing the lid.
An immediate red is usually a lid or safety switch reading the lid as open, not a bulb problem. Check that nothing is propping the lid, close it firmly, and try again. If it repeats, it needs service.
Bulbs and output
The bolt looks dimmer than it used to.
Compare against how bright it was when new and look for discoloration at the bulb ends. Gradual dimming means the bulbs are aging out — covered for life.
How do I tell if a bulb is burnt out?
The Pro carries four tubes, so check all of them before deciding. Silver at the ends is end-of-life; a crack or bubble is damage. A single failed tube is enough to drive the indicator red at the end of a cycle.
Tubes are sealed into the housing and are not sold separately, but the lifetime bulb warranty covers the repair. Photos of all four plus your serial number get a claim moving in one reply.
Power and accessories
I need a replacement power cord.
Tell us the model number from the label on the bottom (for example PSPROV1W or PSPROV1L) and we will point you to the right cord. In the meantime, any quality USB wall adapter rated 15W or higher will run the unit.
Does the Pro come with a wall adapter?
It ships with the cable. Use a 15W or better USB wall adapter — the Pro draws more than the standard models, and an underpowered adapter can cause odd behavior mid-cycle.
Closing the lid starts another cycle.
Normal. The Pro re-runs its 5-minute cycle each time the lid closes so the bay is always freshly sanitized. There is no heat and the power draw is negligible.
Power and general checks
The unit will not turn on at all.
The Pro draws more than the other models, which makes it fussier about adapters. Work through these before assuming it has failed:
- Is the socket live? Test the outlet with a lamp or another device.
- Is it in the right port? The Pro takes the power cord in the port marked USB-C IN only. No other port will run the unit.
- Is it in the right mode? The Pro also has automatic and manual modes — in manual it only starts when you prompt it, so check the mode before assuming it is dead.
- GFCI outlet? On a bathroom, kitchen, or garage outlet, press Reset on the outlet itself and test again. A tripped GFCI is a common false alarm.
- Adapter and cable. Swap in a wall adapter and cable you know work.
If none of that brings it up, the unit needs service. Contact us and we will troubleshoot it with you and set up a return if we need to.
Do you repair units, or replace them?
We always attempt a repair first. If we cannot repair the unit, we send a replacement. Bulb replacements and repairs are handled in house, and bulbs carry a lifetime bulb warranty.
Still stuck? Have your order number and the serial number from the label on your unit ready.
