HEPA works by passive capture: force air through paper and hope the particle is big enough to stick. Scale that to an open floor and two problems compound — the particles it misses, and the filters you keep buying.

HEPA is rated to capture particles larger than 0.3 microns. Ultrafine particles — combustion soot, viral fragments, VOC condensates — are smaller than that, and they pass straight through.

Frequently asked questions
What size room does the AirSoap X8 cover?+
Up to 4,000 sq ft at one air change per hour - a whole floor, or an open-plan main level with rooms leading off it. For faster, more frequent purification we recommend 1,000-1,330 sq ft, where the X8 cycles the room's air three to four times an hour.
Does the AirSoap X8 use replacement filters?+
No. All five stages are washable. You rinse the collecting plates and reuse them, so there are no replacement filters to buy and no refill costs over the life of the unit - which is what makes covering a space this large practical.
How is the X8 different from a HEPA air purifier?+
A HEPA filter traps particles in disposable media that clogs and loses airflow as it fills. TPA charges each particle and destroys it in an ionic field, then collects the remains on washable plates - down to 0.0146 microns, roughly 20 times finer than HEPA's practical floor. Airflow does not fall off as it collects.
What is the difference between the AirSoap X5 and the X8?+
Same washable TPA technology; the X8 simply moves far more air. 470 CFM CADR against the X5's 210, and 4,000 sq ft of coverage against 1,600. If you are purifying a single large room rather than a whole floor, the AirSoap X5 is the better fit; for a bedroom or office, the AirSoap X3.
How loud is the AirSoap X8?+
From 39 dB on its lowest setting - below a quiet library - rising with fan speed. Sleep mode holds it at the low end, and Auto only steps the fan up when the air-quality sensor detects it is needed.
Does the wireless AQI detector come with it?+
Yes, it is included in the box. It reads air quality where you actually are rather than at the unit, and the X8 responds to that reading in Auto mode - useful in a space large enough that conditions differ from one end to the other.
